Hereford Cathedral
Dominating the city since the 12thC
the cathedral is one of the oldest in England. During
the 13th and 14th centuries the
cathedral was extensively changed. The present cathedral
displays a great architectural range with its Norman
structure and and examples of Gothic, Early English,
Decorated, Perpendicular and Modern styles.
Mappa Mundi and Chained Library
The Mappa Mundi was drawn on a piece of vellum in about 1290 and shows a flat world with Jerusalem as its centre.The medieval map is a large scale illustrated manuscript. It records how 13thC scholars interpreted the world in spiritual as well as geographical terms .It is displayed with the famous Chained Library which contains a unique collection of 1 400 chained books and 227 manuscripts dating from the 8th to the 15thcenturies.
Eastnor castle
This splendid Georgian castle has a
fairytale setting with Deer Park, Lake and Arboretum.A
family home with tapestries, fine art, armour and furniture
from the Italianate and Gothic periods.Further attractions
include an Adventure Playground, Garden Centre and Children’s
Maze. Special events are also held and light lunches, cream

Built in 1621 The Old House is a fine
example of Jacobean architecture. Furnished in 17thC style.
St. John’s
Medieval Museum And Coningsby Hospital
The museum is the site of The Blackfriars
Monastery and is set in an attractive rose garden. Within
the garden is the stone Preaching Cross, one of the last
surviving examples of such a cross. The Coningsby Red Coat
Hospital was probably the model for The Chelsea Hospital in
London. The Museum explains the links between the Crusades,
the Knights Templar and the Hospitaller Knights.Many
interesting artefacts are to be found in the museum and the
chapel is still used today by the Order of St. John.
